Before waxing, ensure the hair is the right length (about 1/4 to 1/2 inch; think of a grain of rice) and exfoliate the area gently a day or two before. You can use a gentle scrub, exfoliating mitt, or washcloth. Avoid shaving for at least two weeks before your appointment. Also, avoid lotions, creams, or oils on the day of the wax, and consider taking an over-the-counter pain reliever 30-45 minutes before your appointment. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment, possibly clothing you would not mind getting some wax on depending on the wax service you are receiving.
Your first wax session will mainly remove the hair that is visible above the skin. Hair grows in different cycles, some hair that was below the skin or not long enough for the wax to pull will not be removed until your next few sessions. After about 3 to 4 sessions, all the hair should be growing in sync, leading to longer-lasting results. Make sure to exfoliate 2 to 3 times a week between your waxing sessions and remember to moisturize! Aftercare products are available for purchase.
